In Friday's Guardian, the City of Greater Geraldton ran an advertisement to meet their obligation of advising the public about rate changes.
The headline read: "NOTICE OF INTENTION TO IMPOSE DIFFERENTIAL AND SPECIFIED AREA RATES AND MINIMUM PAYMENTS FOR 2013-14".
Followed by "The City of Greater Geraldton gives notice of its intention to impose the following proposed differential and specified area rates and minimum payments for the 2013-14 financial year".
That was then followed by this chart:
The only problem is we don't all have accounting degrees and carry calculators and last years rates notices about with us while we read the paper.
Thankfully, in the spirit of attempting to communicate better with the general public, the City of Greater Geraldton is undertaking to post "Budget Bulletins" on its website to keep you informed about the budget setting process.
Click here to visit the page on their website about the budget process for the coming year. We recommend having a look at Bulletin 11 to get a clearer picture about what you might expect to pay for your rates based on your property's GRV (gross rental valuation).
There is also a special email address to send any submissions regarding the rates and budget. It is CityBudget2013firstname.lastname@example.org
If you feel you would like some help submitting your thoughts on the changes, you might want to get in touch with a local group who are working towards stopping this years increase, called CGG Ratepayers Demand Change. Click here to visit their Facebook page.
