Truss tours Geraldton on campaign trail with Van Styn

The Nationals WA Candidate for Durack, Shane Van Styn, was joined by the Leader of the Federal National Party, Hon Warren Truss, in Geraldton last Thursday.

The Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Mr Truss met with community and business leaders in Geraldton as he reaffirmed The Nationals' commitment to regional Australia in the lead up to the Federal election.

Mr Van Styn said he enjoyed spending time on the campaign trail with Mr Truss.

"Geraldton is not only my home, but one of Durack’s major economic and social centres," Mr Van Styn said.

"This visit will provided me with an opportunity to give Mr Truss a first-hand look at the community, and discuss with him the need for Federal investment into Durack to deliver on infrastructure needs and community priorities."

Mr Van Styn said the Mid West and Geraldton were key regions for The Nationals.

"The Mid West is poised for a dramatic economic and social transformation that will see it becoming one of Australia’s major infrastructure hubs, but there is much to be done if we are going to capitalise on this growth," Mr Van Styn said.

"Significant Federal investment is required in our roads, rail and port systems to deliver the resources that are driving the national economy."

"The Nationals have a solid track record of investing in our regions and it is time the Midwest had local representation in Canberra to build upon this investment."

"The Midwest contributes much to our nation, and I will be working with Warren Truss and The Nationals to ensure the Mid West, with Geraldton at its heart, is kept firmly on the agenda in Canberra."
