Day Care Training Available

Family day care educators are being sought by the City of Greater Geraldton Council.

Supporting the bid to recruit more educators is Mayor Ian Carpenter, who hopes to increase the number of Bright Stars family day care educators currently providing quality, flexible education and care to local working families.

“The City has had a long and proud association with Bright Stars Family Day Care in the Mid West, Murchison and Pilbara and I fully support this push to recruit more educators,” Mr Carpenter says.

“Family day care is a very valuable service for today’s busy families and also provides a wonderful career opportunity to become an educator. I would encourage anyone interested in this career choice to attend the upcoming training course.”

Bright Stars Family Day Care currently has 30 family day care educators, providing quality early childhood education and care during standard hours as well as on weekends, evenings and overnight.

Family day care coordination unit manager at Bright Stars, Karen McDowell, hopes that the family day care training course running this week from Monday 26 August to Friday 30 August will attract new educators to the coordination unit and provide more quality child care options for local families.

“Family day care is a really viable and rewarding career,” said Ms McDowell.

“Some of our educators have come from a background in long day care or pre-school, however we have a lot of educators who have made a career change to family day care after having had their own children.

“It has given them the opportunity to earn a great salary, doing a job that they adore while still spending time with their children.”
