KidSport having a big local impact

KidSport, a flagship project of the State Government initiative ‘Sport 4 All’, is having a big local impact according to Geraldton MLA Ian Blayney.

He said that 576 KidSport vouchers have been administered to a total of 465 kids throughout Geraldton.

“That’s an investment of $66,660 into Geraldton so far by the State Government, and of the vouchers administered 49.8% have gone to children who had never previously been registered to a local sporting club,” said Mr Blayney.

“The success of the KidSport program relies on the partnership that the Department of Sport and Recreation has built up with Local Government and this ongoing relationship can only assist in the program’s continued growth and success in future years.”

54 clubs and associations in Geraldton have benefited from KidSport, led by the Geraldton Netball Association with 14.2% of KidSport registrations.

Next in the line is PCYC Geraldton (14.1%), Towns Football Club (6.8%), Geraldton Hockey Association (6.4%), Auskick Geraldton (6.4%), Hawks Basketball Club (5.4%), Kazuals Netball Club (5.0%), Brigades Football Club (4.7%), 1st Geraldton Scout Group (4.2%) and Stateside Basketball Club (4.0%).

“On a State-wide basis, to date 26,930 KidSport vouchers have been administered to a total of 21, 367 kids which adds up to a $3.85 million investment by the State Government,” Mr Blayney said.

“Thousands of young people, who otherwise might not have been able to participate without financial assistance, across the State are now able to participate in sport and recreation because the State Government is paying their fees.”
