Berlin-based artist Pia Lanzinger launches new collaborative art project in Geraldton for spaced 2

Berlin based artist Pia Lanzinger will undertake a commissioned art project, on invitation from the Perth-based arts organisation spaced, in the mid-west city of Geraldton. Here Lanzinger will spend two months over 2013 and 2014 in collaboration with the local community and the Western Australian Museum-Geraldton, exploring concepts of the urban and rural landscape. Using a range of critical, ironic, experimental and performative methods of arts practice Lanzinger will investigate the landscape and the contrasts often seen between romantic imaginings and modern interventions of cultivated living spaces. Lanzinger will create a new public art project to be presented to the community of Geraldton at the completion of her residency.

Lanzinger will introduce her project to the Geraldton community through an artist talk at the Arts and Cultural Development Council of Geraldton-Greenough Gallery on the Friday 22nd November, 5pm

Lanzinger’s residency in Geraldton is presented as a part of spaced 2: future recall. Spaced 2: future recall follows on from the success of the inaugural spaced: art out of place program which took place throughout 2009-11 and culminated in an exhibition at Fremantle Arts Centre in 2012. spaced 2: future recall will comprise 13 commissioned art projects produced throughout 2013-14. National and international artists will be invited to undertake residencies in 13 regional host communities throughout Western Australia to produce works that respond to the distinctiveness of Western Australia’s culture, society and natural environment. The unique outcomes of these projects will be gathered together in a group exhibition at the Western Australian Museum (WAM), Perth in early 2015.
