Retail Food Supervisor

Since 1950 Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative (GFC) has supplied premium-quality Western Rock Lobster, commonly known as crayfish here in Western Australia, to customers both domestically and across the globe. GFC’s members, who fish along a thousand kilometres of WA coastline, take pride in their Brolos brand, motivating them to catch and produce the world’s best rock lobster product. As a Co-operative, GFC exists to maximise value to its members.

Recently, GFC acquired the iconic “Barnacles on the Wharf” for which we are seeking candidates for a Retail Food Supervisor to join our team at the outlet on Fishermen’s Wharf, West End Geraldton. You could be leading your team by running a well-maintained kitchen with low stress and an excellent work-life balance.

To be considered for this role you will need to be available to work mostly mornings through to the lunch trade, with some evenings (Friday) and Saturdays on a rotating basis.

Work experience:

  • At least three to five years’ experience in a fast paced environment.


  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or Hospitality

  • A management qualification or industry experience

  • Industry recognised Food Handling Certificate

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to forward plan

  • Reliability, self-motivation and a strong work ethic

Job Task:

  • Ensure adequate stock purchases, receipts, and storage

  • Weekly rostering and ordering

  • Reporting and cash-ups

  • Supervise performance of kitchen staff to ensure proper activity

  • Perform general administrative/banking tasks and communicate to managers

  • Ensure that required standards are adhered to in the production and preparation of food – in safety, quality, productivity, respect, and continuous improvement.

  • Work towards exceeding customer’s expectation by encouraging and promoting high levels of service

  • Ensure all customer complaints, inquiries and suggestions by are responded to accordingly

  • Mentor and support members of the kitchen

  • Create a supportive environment within kitchen and promote team spirit

  • Assist in recruiting, hiring and training cooks and staff

  • Assist kitchen staff as need arises

  • Monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared

  • Knowledge of stocktaking
