Police say there was an increase in reported offences over the holiday period

In an edition of ewatch released today, police say since the start of the new year, Geraldton experienced a rise in reported offences. Senior Sergeant Martin Haime said that this was a trend experienced during school holidays and the holiday season when travellers pass through town.

Sergeant Haime said strategies implemented by the police saw a reduction in these offences.

"Geraldton Police commenced Operation Night Hawk, targeting an increase in burglaries and related crime within our community. We employed strategies to monitor key active offenders, which resulted in 13 arrests and 64 charges."

"We have also been working tirelessly siezing stolen property, stolen firearms, illicit substances and cash.

"Our strategies have seen a marked reduction in crime, however we are maintaining our vigilence and request the community also remain vigilent by reporting any suspicious behaviour to Police."

To report an suspicious behaviour to the police call 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
