Brede Street retaining wall works

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise it is undertaking works to extend the existing retaining wall along Brede Street to reduce rainwater runoff from the vegetated slope.

The estimated date of completion of works is 23 December 2016.

During this time members of the community are requested to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and directions from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Aquarena closed due to power pole fire

The Aquarena will be closed today as Western Power replaces a power pole that caught fire last night.

Works will take place today Thursday 17 November from 9am-4pm. The Aquarena will advise when the centre is back open.

Swimming classes that are missed today will be replaced at a later date.

Removal of tree in Rundle Park

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise it will be removing a dead Tuart tree in Rundle Park on Tuesday 15 November 2016.

Although the City is always reluctant to remove trees as they add to the liveability of the urban space, in this case the tree located in close proximity to the footpath presents a serious risk to pedestrians and motorists.

During the removal of the tree, motorists and pedestrians are requested to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and directions from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Footpath works on North West Coastal Highway continue

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise footpath renewal works on North West Coastal Highway are continuing between Wittenoom Street and BCF with concreting works scheduled to be onsite until 14 October 2016.

The anticipated hours of work will be between from 6am to 6pm and include removing the slab path and replacing it with a user friendly concrete path.

These works are part of $1,041,084 allocated in the 2016/17 Budget for the renewal of footpaths which will see approximately 1.68km of the footpath network replaced.

Foreshore Waterpark to re-open

As we hit Spring and can start to expect some warmer weather, the City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise the public that the Geraldton Foreshore Waterpark will be re-open to the public on Saturday 24 September.

The waterpark has been closed during the winter months but will open seven days a week from 9am – 6pm.

Works at St Georges Beach

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that works to improve community safety and reduce beach erosion at St Georges Beach will begin on Tuesday 27 September and take approximately four weeks to complete.

Works include the construction of rain water overflow swales in the grassed areas to recharge ground water, installing a fence in the west side of the playground to reduce the likelihood of children running onto the road and the one-way realignment of the carpark.

City to undertake prescribed burning

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that prescribed burning will be conducted in Strathalbyn and Cape Burney.

It will take place on Thursday 22 September in the river area behind Strathalbyn and also on Friday 23 September in the Cape Burney river area.

City staff will be conducting the burning in conjunction with the Green Army and local Bush Fire Brigades.

Temporary closure of the Foreshore toddler play area

9 September 2016

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise the Foreshore toddler play area will be temporarily closed from Tuesday 13 September to Thursday 15 September 2016 to undertake maintenance work to the soft fall.

The toddler sand playground is not affected and will remain open to the public.

As access to driveways may be limited during maintenance, the City encourages residents to park their vehicles outside the work area where possible.

Repairs to footpaths at Edith Cowan Park

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise it will be repairing the footpath at Edith Cowan Park, located on Marine Terrace across from the Courthouse with works scheduled to begin on Tuesday 2 August and lasting for three days.

To ensure community safety the footpaths will be fenced off during the works.

One day closure of Aquarena

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise the Aquarena will be closed on Tuesday 2 August 2016 from 7am for Western Power to undertake maintenance work on the facility’s main transformer.

Early morning swimmers won’t be affected by the closure as the Aquarena will be open from 5.30am-7am on 2 August.  Programs and classes scheduled for the day will be rescheduled.

The Aquarena will resume normal business hours on Wednesday 3 August 2016 from 5.30am to 7pm.
