Midwest Schools Showcase 2014

  • Queens Park Theatre Cathedral Ave Geraldton, WA, 6530 Australia (map)

Since its inception in 1991, Showcase, the brain child of Mr Frank Hardwick, inaugural principal of Mount Tarcoola Primary School, Geraldton, more opportunities for all Schools of the Mid West Region, in hands on experiences, have been introduced. Some of these are:

* Teachers and Students display their talents by Directing and Performing
* Stage Acts. Individual Students have the opportunity to display their personal talent by performing In front of curtain acts before an audience of 1800 (over three performances) in the beautiful appointed Queens Park Theatre Geraldton.
* Introducing the acts are year 7 Student Comperes who show professionalism in weaving their way through this amazing spectacle of young talent from the schools of the Mid West Region of Western Australia.

Students gain ‘hands on’ under the supervision of the lighting and audio technicians. Others learn the back stage workings of a large commercialt theatre with guidance from the theatres stage sanager, in moving props, curtain raising, ushering students back stage intime for their performance.

Media Students gain experience by producing a DVD of Showcase, from creating a story board including a short history of Showcase, compiling interviews, current performances, through to editing and printing of the finished product. All under the supervision of expert volunteers. Many other opportunities are available – prop making – set design, the list just keeps growing. IT’S ALL THERE FOR THE TAKING.
