Chrysalis is currently rolling out the Community, Respect and Equality Project, a Strategic Action Plan for primary prevention of family and domestic violence in Geraldton.
Community, Respect and Equality Project Officer, Margie Robinson said “Geraldton has one of the highest incident rates of family and domestic violence (FDV) per capita in Western Australia. The Community, Respect and Equality project looks to address this at a whole of community level through initiatives that promote respect and equality in a range of settings including workplaces, sporting clubs, schools and community events.
The Project has also received Community Crime Prevention Funding from WA Police for the Community Champions Pilot Project which will enable community members to stand up and speak out against violence in a united and positive way.
Ms Robinson said ‘The Project focuses on initiatives such as the Community Champions Pilot Project that challenge accepted behaviours and social norms that condone violence and reinforce inequality and disrespect”.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the project and how they can get involved should attend one of two information sessions – one on March 14 from 10am to 12pm at PCYC (creche available), and one on Friday March 17 at Pollinators, from 6pm to 8pm.
