Nukara Music Festival 2018

  • Nukara Farm 115 Nanson-Howatharra Rd, Nanson WA 6532 (map)

Established in 2005 the Nukara Music Festival has gone from strength to strength from its initial basic beginnings of a few blues/roots bands under the gum trees on the amazing property of Phil and Donna Blakeway known as Nukara Farm in the Chapman Valley an easy drive N/E of Geraldton WA.

These days there is a main stage with comfortable and roomy grassed areas surrounded by gum trees that people set up in with their chairs/rugs with their friends and enjoy some amazing acts that have visited from around the world and Australia.

This year popular modern bluesman Ash Grunwald loved for his crowd frenzied shows and blistering guitar playing, will be lighting up Nukara’s main stage as one of the main acts. In addition, everybody’s favourite family band ‘Blue Shaddy’ will return after their special 10th Nukara Music Festival Anniversary appearance back in 2015. Two acts from Melbourne will be making their way to the Mid West for their first time. ‘This Way North’ a punchy swamp-groove folk duo will show you that girl’s rock and Independent blues/soul troubadour and multiple music award winner Shaun Kirk will surely blow you away with his sweet rip roaring range of vocal and guitar abilities, and still in his early 20’s. We are really looking forward to The ‘Justin Walshe Folk Machine’ mixing elements of folk, bluegrass, and Americana filtered through the dead dry arid Western Australian sense of humour, impeccable storytelling and a heaving acoustic storm of bluegrass instruments. Popular Geraldton band ‘Songbird’ migrate from the Creek Stage last year onto the main stage this year with their catchy mix of soulful originals and covers.

There is also the second stage the Creek Stage that has a winter creek flowing underneath and is enveloped with beautiful River Red Gums that has a couple of sets on Sat night with The Family Band (Rosie Sitorus, Brendan Reznep, Lana Winfield & Damian Smith) in-between some of the main acts, a wind down session after the bands, then used again Sunday morning for the recovery breakfast with more live music surprises including Sarah O’Malley, Harpies Bazaar and more tba.
