Dying To Know Day

  • QEII - 88 Durlacher St, Geraldton (map)

Dying to Know Day is an annual day of action on 8 August each year, dedicated to bringing to life conversations and community actions around death, dying and bereavement. D2KDay promotes the development of Death Literacy across Australia, which is the practical know how needed for end of life planning.

Dying is an inevitable part of life and one of the aims of the day is to promote conversations that break down barriers and build compassionate communities that are able to respond better to death and loss when it occurs.

Too many people die in ways that are not consistent with their values or wishes. Meaningful end of life planning should occur at any age and regardless of our health status. Planning ahead means we have the opportunity to communicate what we do and don’t want at the end of our life.

This year Regional Alliance West will be hosting a D2KD event for the Geraldton community in collaboration with the City of Greater Geraldton. Due to the availability of a venue, the event will be held on Thursday 9 August, at the QEII Centre in the Lower Hall. The proceedings will start at 9:30 am and continue until 3:00 pm.

People are welcome to come and go throughout the day and listen to any or all of the five different information sessions planned for the day. If people can’t attend for the whole day, then they can check out our website or call our office for a detailed program of events.

The City of Greater Geraldton is providing a free morning and afternoon tea and attendees are free to bring their own lunch and enjoy it while listening to the excellent information being shared.

In between information sessions, people can browse the variety of information stalls that will be around the venue, take away resources, and talk to the speakers and various agencies and services that can assist with this type of future planning.

For further information contact Alison Muller or Hester Coetsee at Regional Alliance West on 9938 0600 or alison@raw.org.au and hester@raw.org.au.
