Now You See Me/Playing The Man EXHIBITIONS - Opening Night

  • Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (map)

‘Playing the Man’ by Perth photographer Graham Miller subverts ideas of the tough, Aussie footballer using humour to question notions of masculinity, while in ‘Now You See Me’ local curator Ingrid Horn selects almost 50 artworks by women artists in the City of Greater Geraldton Collection, recognising and celebrating their presence in this significant public collection.

We encourage you to wear your favourite AFL guernsey for a night of fine wine and canapes.

PLAYING THE MAN

Childhood memories are the trigger for Miller’s photographic series Playing the Man. These playful and humorous images are a celebration of football and a wistful look at the past. Referencing bubble gum footy cards from the 1970’s and80’s(and press images, including Rennie Ellis's iconic image of Robbie McGhie),Miller recreates himself as boyhood football heroes to explore issues of masculinity, identity and cultural difference.

NOW YOU SEE ME

A timely survey of artworks by women artists in the CGG Art Collection, selected by local emerging curator Ingrid Horn. The exhibition reflects themes, stories and unique perspectives, offering insights into the progressive building of this significant public collection with the increasing number and range of artworks made by women and subsequently collected by the CGG.
