Melissa Price claims victory in Durack
/Melissa Price, the Liberal candidate for Australia's most sprawling seat Durack, has claimed victory following a tight election contest.
Her team issued this statement this morning, in spite of the main contender Shane Van Styn from the National party not conceding defeat yet.
“After additional counting, despite the fact my opponent has not yet conceded, it is now clear that I have been elected as the next member for Durack.
“The electorate of Durack is vast. At more than 1.5 million square kilometres it is a land area about the same size as the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Italy, Germany and Japan combined.
“It is humbling to think that tens of thousands of people have placed their trust in me to represent them at a Federal level and to fight for a fair share, better services and better infrastructure. I thank everyone who has supported me. I pledge to deliver a better deal for Durack and will work hard over the next three years. I am now part of the Liberal team with the Liberal Prime Minister, Liberal Treasurer and senior Ministers. Along with my fellow regional WA Liberal Members, I will use that relationship and teamwork to deliver for regional WA.”
