Standoff ends in violent struggle

Yesterday at around 2.30 pm (11/9/13), police were called to a short stay accommodation building in Marine Terrace Geraldton following calls of concern for the welfare of one of the male residents.

On police arrival, the man barricaded himself inside one of the rooms and Police say he armed himself with a knife and other objects.

Negotiations followed, but were ultimately unsuccessful.

Police then forced entry to the room and were able to disarm the male person after a violent struggle.

Fortunately no persons were injured during the incident and the man was apprehended.

A 48 year old man from Geraldton was referred to specialist health services for assessment and police inquiries are continuing.
