In Geraldton, Western Australia, Deborah Woods, chief executive of the Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service, said the COAG funds had allowed the service to recruit seven health workers, establish a traineeship program to attract young Aboriginal men into health care, including mental health, and to deliver services in places that were previously beyond its reach.

She said while the gaps in health remained daunting, but important foundations had been laid and the COAG funding had allowed health services to "think outside the box".
