Western Power fined $100,000+ over Amber Finch death
/Western Power has been fined $101,250 plus $5721 in court costs after pleading guilty to failing to keep its network safe.
They have promised to remove all street lighting switch wires from its network by June 2014.
The magistrate in the case said Western Power avoided paying the maximum $250,000 penalty because they chose to plead guilty straight away.
Amber Finch was killed in January 2011, after coming into contact with a power line brought down by a storm. Two of her friends that were with her were also injured after coming to her assistance. A qualified nurse who happened to be passing by was unable to revive her. Amber was well regarding in the Geraldton community by her friends and peers.
