Community Tree Planting Day this Saturday

As part of the City of Greater Geraldton’s award-winning 2029 and Beyond project, in early 2010 the City held a series of World Cafes and asked locals what they liked about the place they call home, what they didn’t want to lose as the City grows and what would make it an even better place to live by 2029 and beyond.
The number one answer was that the community wanted more trees planted. As a result of this, the Million Trees Project has become the flagship 2029 and Beyond project.
To mark the beginning of the local planting season there will be a community tree planting session at Maitland Park on Saturday, June 8 from 8.30am to 10.30am. It all counts towards Geraldton’s Million Trees Project.
The community is invited and encouraged to come along to learn some top tips on planting trees and the importance of soil; help plant a small garden in Maitland Park; receive a free Million Trees smart pack; and enjoy a complimentary morning tea at the nearby Geraldton-Greenough Farmers Markets.
To participate just turn up in suitable gardening clothes, gloves and bring a hand spade if you have one, but please avoid parking on the grass area. If you plan to come it would be helpful if you could let the project officers know by Friday, June 7 by email to milliontrees@cgg.wa.gov.au, phone 9956 6613 or in person at the Civic Centre on Cathedral Avenue.
