Volunteers needed for Cruise Ship arrival

Cruise ship the Dawn Princess is due to return to Geraldton on June 25 and Geraldton is ready to turn on the charm and welcome her back with a band of friendly Meet and Greet volunteers.

This will be the cruise liner’s last stop before returning to Fremantle from where it left on June 10 for a 17-day round trip to Indonesia.

Dawn Princess last visited Geraldton in July 2012 and passengers left the city with fond memories of a clean, tidy town with friendly people.

So, to keep the City’s reputation alive as a friendly place to disembark, the call is out for more Meet and Greet volunteers to be on hand to welcome and give passengers directions around town.

City of Greater Geraldton’s Cruise Ship and Visitor Information Officer, Joanne Brown, said there is a pool of Meet and Greet volunteers but more are needed to assist for the Dawn Princess’s visit.

“We have a regular pool of wonderful volunteers who are just fantastic when the cruise ships visit,” she said.

“But sometimes they are not all available at the same time, so if anyone is keen to put their hand up for a few hours each time a cruise ship visits I would really appreciate it.

“Being a Meet and Greet volunteer is a lot of fun and you get to meet all sorts of interesting people,” said Ms Brown.

“We are also seeking more stall holders to be at the marina when the passengers come ashore, they are always eager to take home a reminder of their visit.”

People interested in becoming a Meet and Greet Volunteer or stallholder can contact Ms Brown on joanneb@cgg.wa.gov.au or by phone 9921 3999.

The Dawn Princess carries approximately 1950 passengers and during her previous visit to Geraldton about 85 per cent of them came ashore.
