Family loses everything in Narngulu fire - home destroyed
/
At about 7:50am on Tuesday 16 July 2013 WA Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) were called to a home fire on Rudds Gully Road in Narngulu.
Upon arriving, emergency services found the home to be completely engulfed in fire, fortunately however all occupants had been able to escape. An adult male resident was found to have a lacerated arm, and was suffering from the affects of smoke inhalation. He, along with a male child reported to be 12 years old also affected by smoke were conveyed to Geraldton Regional Hospital for treatment. Both are expected to make full recoveries.
The home comprised of a number of demountable buildings, and was completely destroyed by the fire.
At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, however a collaborative investigation by Police and DFES Investigators is underway to determine how the fire started. Police do not believe the fire to have been arson at this stage.
Support via social media on Everything Geraldton and other places from the Geraldton community has been encouraging.
The dwelling was home to three adults and six children, and friends of the family have been reaching out for donations to help them.
This was posted on Everything Geraldton by Jessica Stanley for people wanting to help out:
"Thanks heaps for the donations. I have an address.... 15 Candlebark Dr in Strathalbyn. It is their parent's house. The woman is size 16 and both adult males are mediums. Thanks so much for all your support. It is amazing how the community gets together in times of need."
