Two injured in highway collision

Two men were seriously injured in a head-on collision on North West Coastal Higheway, about 20km north of Geraldton, this morning (Saturday August 17).
An off-duty police officer is believed to have been the first to discover the crash scene at about 8.30am. Occupants were trapped in the vehicles, which were both described as utilities, Fire and Rescue crews from Geraldton and Northampton were called to the scene to free them from the wrec kage.
One victim was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital by one of two ambulances called to the scene, while the second ambulance crew worked to stabilise the other casualty before he too was taken to hospital.
A 65 year old man from Scarborough and a 31 year old Geraldton man sustained serious injuries in the collision.
Both were flown to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for further treatment, and police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
