Family of hit and run victims protesting lack of Police action

Family and friends of the victims of the two people killed in a hit and run in Waggrakine two weeks ago were protesting today outside the Geraldton police station over what they see as a lack of action for a serious crime.

The driver who had reportedly been charged with drink driving a few weeks before the incident, struck two people on Chapman Valley Rd and did not stop to help them. The two victims both died.

Later after being pressured by family members the man turned himself in to the police, and did have alcohol in his system, though it is unknown if he drank before or after the incident.

The father of one of the deceased expressed his frustration at what he saw as a lack of social justice, saying charges needed to be pressed and something needed to be done. He said he believed that the matter hadn't yet received the attention it should have from the police and also the media.
