New councillors sworn in, Deputy Mayor Chosen
/The City of Greater Geraldton's newly elected councillors have been sworn in at a meeting held tonight at council chambers.
Seating was drawn by random ballot.
Voting for the position of Deputy Mayor also took place, with three councillors nominating for the position, Jerry Clune, Neil McIlwaine and Shane Van Styn nominating for the position.
Jerry Clune said he would be good support for the mayor.
Neil McIlwaine congratulated the new councillors, and expressed his pleasure and pride in the roll of deputy mayor to date, and asked for the support of councillor to continue in the roll.
Van Styn pointed out the results from the recent election was showed the public wanted change. He said he offered experience and had good relationships with politicians that would be invaluable in helping the CGG have a stronger voice when it came.
Councillor Neil McIlwaine was reelected by his peers as deputy Mayor for another two years. As he was only present via teleconference, he will be officially sworn in at the next opportunity.
The Mayor Ian Carpenter addressed and congratulated the newly elected members, and said he looked forward to working with them, while reminding everyone that sometimes with democracy we don't get our own way.
