The City of Greater Geraldton is pleased to announce that a portion of Lot 601 Marine Tce, commonly known as ‘the PTA’ land (opposite the Geraldton Regional Library), will be available for extra free parking during the Christmas/New Year shopping season.
In response to a request from the Midwest Chamber of Commerce and Industry the City approached the Public Transport Authority, owner of the land, for use of the area for temporary parking from December 4, 2013 until January 31 2014.
The City has taken this step to assist CBD traders in the lead up to Christmas and to supply more parking for visiting tourists. It will also provide more parking space for the City’s day long events on Australia Day, on January 26, 2014. The PTA land has only been made available for the above duration and will be closed to the public after that period.
A temporary boundary fence and an additional access gate is being installed at the City’s expense, along with a temporary fence to section off a portion of the area used by the Champion Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
Minister for Commerce, Hon Michael Mischin MLC, approved the City’s application for extended trading hours for the following times:
Sunday 15 December, from 10am to 4pm
Sunday 22 December, from 10am to 4pm
Monday 23 December, from 6pm to 9pm
It is up to the discretion of the individual trader whether or not they choose to open their doors for these additional hours.
