City calls on community to help Foodbank Christmas Appeal | City of Greater Geraldton

The City of Greater Geraldton is calling on the generosity of community members to donate non-perishable food items for distributing to locals less fortunate this Christmas.

Donations can be placed in a Foodbank bin located in two places: the front foyer of the Civic Centre at 63 Cathedral Ave, Geraldton during business hours; or under the Christmas decorated pine tree on the corner of Marine Tce and Foreshore Dr opposite the cinema, at any time. Bins will be cleared regularly by Foodbank between now and Christmas.

Financial donations can also be made directly to Foodback by calling 9964 8011.

Christmas time can be particularly trying for those in poverty whose situation may escalate with the expectation that comes with Christmas. Supporting Foodbank will at least help see that no one goes hungry this Christmas.

Foodbank WA is the largest hunger relief organisation in Western Australia. Last year it provided food for four million meals. It operates as a non-denominational, non-profit pantry for charities and community groups who support people in need. For more than 10 years Foodbank Geraldton has supported disadvantaged families throughout the Mid West.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor, Ian Carpenter, acknowledges the wonderful staff and volunteers at Foodbank Geraldton.

“These people provide an outstanding community service year-round,” he said.

“I urge community members to share goodwill and get behind the Foodbank Christmas appeal. Work colleagues or family members might like to pool resources and get a good lot of donations happening.”
