Geraldton teenager builds “Dodge Flapping Bird” app

photo-1 Cody Purcell, 18, has released his first app on iTunes in the form of the game “Dodge Flapping Bird” .

This comes after the success of the game Flappy Bird which was a worldwide sensation before the creator took it off the market. Since then, there were thousands of releases of remakes but Cody created something a bit different.

He kept the motion of the flapping bird however the object of the game is to dodge objects.

“When Flappy Bird came out I thought to myself, this is so simple, I could create something like this,” Cody said.

The Engineering student didn’t have any experience in creating apps or games and it took him about 2-weeks with some fairly long days to create  and code Dodge Flapping Bird.

It has already had over 500 downloads since its release in mid-February.

“It is really cool to see that I’ve actually created it and that it's my game,” Cody said.

“My family and friends love it which makes it all worth it.”

Cody said he has some big ideas to build more apps.

The game is a free and can be downloaded here.
