The Purple Bra has become one of WA’s most well-known charity symbols.
Purple Bra Day is a time when blokes can embrace their cheeky, feminine side, laughs can be had by all and, most importantly, money and awareness is raised for such a worthy cause - the fight against breast cancer.
Dr Ros Worthington, founder of Breast Cancer Care WA, will be travelling back to her hometown of Geraldton to celebrate 10 years of Purple Bra Day at an inspirational breakfast on June 20.
Ros said the opportunity to spread the message about breast cancer awareness in her hometown was too good to miss.
“Breast Cancer Care WA and Purple Bra Day has gone from strength to strength over the past decade, but we must never forget that spreading the word about breast cancer awareness is an ongoing mission,” she said.
From what started in the back room of her mastectomy boutique back in 2000, Ros has created one of the most high-profile and fastest growing charities in WA.
Besides its vital grass-roots support to women suffering from breast cancer, the charity has broadened its services to support men, families and the indigenous community while continuously raising awareness in the wider community about the importance of early detection.
After raising more than $420,000 in 2013, this year’s Purple Bra Day will be bigger and better. All funds raised will go towards providing practical, financial and emotional support for those affected by breast cancer in WA.
Listening to Ros speak about her philanthropic and humanitarian outlook on life and any aspect of her 30 years in charity – whether it involves breast cancer, orphans, mental illness or sick children – is an uplifting experience, inspiring many to follow the creed of "paying it forward"
