17 year old leads police on a pursuit

A 17-year-old Morawa male has been charged with several offences after stealing a carton of Jack Daniels and leading police on a pursuit. At about 8pm on Saturday, the male driving a blue Holden Commodore sedan stole the carton of alcohol from a drive through bottle shop in Geraldton. At about 10.30pm, police observed the same vehicle on Kenny Crescent, Rangeway, driving in a reckless and erratic manner.

Police activated lights and sirens to intercept the vehicle however it failed to stop. The vehicle sped away and police lost sight of the vehicle.

Within minutes, further police located the vehicle at which point, a pursuit resulted in the suburb of Rangeway.

The pursuit lasted for approximately one minute and reached speeds of about 80 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometre per hour speed zone.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle drove into the driveway of a residence in Broadfield Close at a low speed colliding with lattice work fence that borders the driveway.

As the vehicle stopped, the driver exited the vehicle and ran from the scene.

Police canine unit were deployed in the area and police dog BEAR located and apprehended the offending driver hiding under a vehicle in the rear yard of a house on Abraham Street, Karloo.

Police will allege the male offender attempted to strike at BEAR causing BEAR to bite the offender on the hand. The offender received minor injuries to his hand and was arrested.

He was conveyed to Geraldton Police Station where he provided a final breath analysis reading of 0.140%.

He was charged with the following:

1 x No drivers licence 1 x Fail to give name / address of driver (property damage) 1 x Fail to Stop when called up 1 x Reckless Driving 1 x Excess 0.08g alcohol per 100ml of blood 1 x Stealing

The male will appear at Geraldton Children’s Court on 10 June 2014.
