Change of hours for Geraldton Regional Library

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that new opening hours for the Geraldton Regional Library will come into effect as of Monday 11 April, 2016

In a continuous effort to lower its overall operating costs with a view to diverting more money to renewing ageing infrastructure and reducing increases, the Council has adopted a long term financial plan based on a new organisational structure and a reviewed range and level of services provided by the City.

As a result, the Library will now close on Wednesday mornings and at 5.30pm on Thursday evenings.

New opening hours include:

  • Monday – 1pm to 5.30pm
  • Tuesday – 9am to 5.30pm
  • Wednesday – 1pm to 5.30pm
  • Thursday – 9am to 5.30pm
  • Friday – 9am to 5.30pm
  • Saturday – 9.30am to 1pm
  • Sunday 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Road Maintenance works in Waggrakine

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that it will be undertaking road maintenance works in the locality of Waggrakine fromWednesday 6 April to Friday 15 April 2016. 

Shoulder maintenance to repair the edges of the road and reduce deterioration of the road seal will take place on the Chapman Valley Road between Sutcliffe Road and Hackett Drive. 

Traffic management will be in place during this time. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Changes to rubbish collection during Easter period

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise of the following changes to rubbish collection and waste disposal over the Easter long weekend.

 

Good Friday 25 March 2016

No residential or commercial rubbish collection for the following Councils:

  • Shires of Irwin
  • Shire of Northampton
  • City of Greater Geraldton.

Bins normally collected on Friday will be collected on Saturday 26 March 2016.

Shire of Chapman Valley will have no changes to collection schedules.

 

The following landfill and transfer stations will be closed on Good Friday 25 March 2016:

  • Meru Waste Facility
  • Irwin Transfer Station
  • Northampton Transfer Station
  • Kalbarri Transfer Station
  • Nabawa Transfer Station

Easter Monday 28 March 2016 - Normal rubbish collections resume.

Road resealing works

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise road resealing works will be undertaken in Waggrakine, the West End and in Mullewa. 

Works are scheduled to commence on David Road North, Coxswain Crescent and Jose Street in Mullewa on Friday 18 March 2016 and are expected to take approximately five days to complete. 

Access to driveways may be limited during this time. Traffic management will be in place, however motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Partial closure of Foreshore promenade

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise the Foreshore promenade from the Youth Precinct to the Francis Street Finger Jetty will be closed to undertake Multi-User Facility landscaping works. 

Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 21 March 2016 and are expected to last for approximately eight weeks. 

During this time access to the Esplanade (Eastern Breakwater) will be via the Francis Street carpark. 

Pedestrians are requested to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Wonthella Oval carpark closed on 20 March

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that sections of Wonthella Oval carpark will be closed for resealing works on Sunday 20 March 2016. 

Traffic management will be in place, however motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Road sealing works in Utakarra

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise road sealing works will be undertaken on the Utakarra Reserve. 

Works are scheduled to take place between Friday 18 March 2016 and Monday 21 March 2016. 

Access to the Turf Club from Utakarra Road and the Utakarra Reserve sporting facilities may be limited during this time. Traffic management will be in place, however motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Litter warning for local residents

The City of Greater Geraldton is warning residents to secure loads on vehicles when driving to the Meru Waste facility after reports of excessive litter on Edward Road.

Due to the amount of litter left on the road, City Rangers will conduct random patrols in the vicinity of Edward Road and drivers risk being fined.

In accordance with the Litter Regulations Act, driving a vehicle with an unsecured load in a public place can incur a maximum $5000 penalty.

The City encourages people to adhere to the regulations and secure their loads to avoid a fine and to help keep Edward Road litter free.

Breakfast in the Park with Paul Brown and The Friends of Point Moore

"You are invited to attend a free ‘Breakfast in the Park’ with Paul Brown MP and City of Greater Geraldton Mayor, Shane Van Styn, at 8am on Sunday 6 March at Coxswains Park, Point Moore, along with representatives from the Friends of Point Moore Incorporated.

"A petition to Parliament will be circulated on the day, calling on the Minister to allow residents of Point Moore to continue to be able to live a life of quiet enjoyment in their beach cottages.

"A gold coin donation will go to Chrysalis Women’s Refuge."

Renewal works to Carpark #3 – Anzac Terrace

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that resurfacing works will be carried out in the City’s Car Park #3 located on the corner of Anzac Terrace and Durlacher Street. 

Works are scheduled to commence on Tuesday 8 March 2016 and expected to last for a period of approximately 29 days. Works will be carried out on week day between the hours of 6am and 6pm, there will be minimal disruptions and the City will endeavour to keep the car park open, however it may be closed for short periods of time. 

Motorists and pedestrians are requested to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Removal of QPT asbestos roof complete

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that the removal of the old Queens Park Theatre asbestos roof is complete.

The independent environmental consultant engaged during the works has completed all monitoring and analysis associated with the asbestos roof removal and has issued a certificate of clearance for the QPT facility in accordance with Australian standards. 

The City wishes to thank the public for their cooperation in observing safety measures implemented throughout the removal process.

Road maintenance works in Walkaway and Moonyoonooka

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that it will be undertaking road maintenance works in the localities of Walkaway and Moonyoonooka starting on Wednesday 2 March until Friday 18 March 2016.

Roads undergoing shoulder maintenance are McCartney Road between Edward Road and Brand Highway, and on Moonyoonooka-Narngulu Road between Geraldton Mount Magnet Road and Edward Road.

Traffic management will be in place during this time. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and direction from authorised City personnel and contractors.

Bridge construction on Geraldton Mount Magnet Road

The City wishes to advise that the remaining Abraham Street concrete bridge spans above the railway line will be lifted into place on Wednesday 24 February and Thursday 25 February 2016. 

The Geraldton Mount Magnet Road will remain open during this time however motorists are advised to exercise caution when entering the area and to obey all warning signs and direction from authorised traffic management personnel.

Roads closed due to bush fire: Geraldton Mt Magnet

Due to a fire burning in Wicherina bushlands near Geraldton Mount Magnet Road at 1.38pm this afternoon the Geraldton- Mt Magnet Rd has been closed between Moonyoonooka Yuna Road turnoff and Mingenew to Mullewa Rd turn off.

The City of Greater Geraldton encourages residents in the Wicherina, Eradu & Northern Gully to stay alert, monitor your surroundings and to obey all warning signs from authorised personnel.

A total of 25 Career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service fire fighters are actively on the scene and building and strengthen containment lines.
