WA's first Uranium Mine gets the go ahead
/Toro Energy will move to finalise funding and design plans for a new uranium mine in Western Australia, after receiving environmental approval for the project.
The federal government on Tuesday approved Toro's $269 million Wiluna uranium project, 30km south of the Wiluna township and about 960km northeast of Geraldton.
The Wiluna mine will become Australia's sixth producer of uranium and the first in Western Australia.
This may add another bit of weight behind the mission to get Oakajee Port finally underway. Although the Chapman Valley Shire have a "nuclear free" status currently, preventing transport of this type of goods through their area, the Oakajee Port and the surrounding buffer zone it has makes for an ideal location for the export of materials we wouldn't be entirely comfortable with sending through the Geraldton port.
Would you be okay with uranium shipped via an Oakajee based port?
