Here's who is running for Council in the upcoming local government elections

When nominations for the City of Greater Geraldton local government election closed lastThursday, there was a mix of previous councillors and new names throwing their hat into the ring.

Electoral Returning Officer, Michelle Gard, was on hand to announce those who will be competing in the local government elections on October 19.

Former Mid West Development Commission Chief Executive Officer, Steve Douglas, will pit himself against current Councillor Robert Ramage, who has renominated for the Champion Bay Ward.

Sitting Councillor Ron Ashplant has renominated and will challenge David J. Caudwell for Chapman Ward.

Jon Ward will run against three other new candidates, Michael Raymond, Ron Bradfield and Laurie Graham for the Hills Ward.

For Mullewa, existing Councillor Nino Messina has renominated and will compete against school teacher, Jennifer Critch.

In the Port Ward, renominating Councillor Neil Bennett will battle it out against Victor Tanti and Malcolm Smith.

Previous councillors, Shane Van Styn and Terry O’Toole will compete for Tarcoola Ward. In Willcock, Councillor Chris Gabelish will be up against Simon Keemink.
