Brief update on yesterday's plane crash at Geraldton Airport

Pilot remains in critical condition.

Geraldton Police received notification at about 3.53pm yesterday (18/9/13) that a single engine light aircraft had crashed in proximity to the Geraldton airport.

Shortly after impact, the aircraft burst into flames.

First responders on the scene attended immediately to extinguish the flames whilst Police and Ambulance officers extracted the injured pilot from the wreckage.

The pilot was conveyed to Geraldton Regional Hospital and later transferred to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries.

A first responder also received minor burn injuries and was also transferred to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment. The pilot remains in a critical condition. Inquiries will be continued by the Geraldton Police Station and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).
