Local raising funds for Epilepsy Awareness
/Geraldton resident, Shelby, is inspiring hearts with her online campaign to raise funds for Epilepsy Awareness. From her "Everyday Hero" page:
"I was diagnosed with Absent Type epilepsy when I was 11 years old. My condition was controlled by medication until I was 16 years old when a knock to the head in basketball provoked another seizure. My condition is again very well controlled by medication and I continued to play basketball until I was 18 years old, when I was told I wasn't allowed to play anymore. I was devastated to say the least, but I am now proud to say I am 6 years seizure free, and I am about to start my first season back at basketball which is something that means the world to me. So in October 2013, I will be suiting up for my local team Pumas, and rocking the purple helmet to raise awareness and funds for epilepsy."
