Youth Alive are once again proud to present a series of youth events in Geraldton and the Midwest, bringing Blake Young, a.k.a. Young Chozen, an L.A. Rap/Hip Hop Artist who toured here successfully last year. Growing up in LA, Young Chozen faced many struggles with the culture and attitudes of street life, experiencing divorce, loneliness and abuse but in 2005 he made a decision to turn his life around and use those stories to impact a generation through rap, hip hop and song. Today he travels extensively sharing his stories and encouraging the young people of this generation to make healthy choices and take control of their lives.

In partnership with youth groups in Geraldton and Dongara, Young Chozen will visit high schools in Morawa, Dongara and Geraldton bringing his special brand of impromptu Rap and Hip Hop to students and culminating in an open concert on the Friday night. The concert event held last year attracted over 350 young people aged between 12 – 18 years and it is hoped that this year’s event is even bigger. A pre-concert event will be held from 6pm offering inflatable fun, games and competitions with the concert event commencing at 7pm on Friday 18th October 2013.

The event has also attracted funding from County Arts WA to host a workshop for young people who want to learn Rapping/Hip Hop artistic skills; increase in performance confidence skills and understand how to incorporate a healthy message through art. It is anticipated that this event will prove very popular with young people in the region who will benefit greatly from the opportunity to learn from a proven performer.

The Groundswell Midwest Event will offer the following opportunities for young people to connect with and interact with their peers whilst making the most of the talents of Young Chozen and the Youth Alive WA Team:

Wednesday 16th October – Visits to Carnamah and Dongara High Schools

Thursday 17th October – Visits to Geraldton Senior High School. Informal visit to the Mobile Youth Bus Activities at the foreshore on Thursday evening.

Friday 18th October –Visits to Strathalbyn Christian College, John Willcock College & Geraldton Grammar School.
