Opportunity for your club to get a free Makeover

The City of Greater Geraldton is at the forefront of club development in the Mid West, being the only local government to employ a Club Development Officer – in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation.
Now the seven‐year partnership is about to take a more focused approach to building the capacity of local clubs with the Our Club Rules! Club Makeover Program.
The proposal is to develop partnerships with up to six selected community clubs, three sporting and three non‐sporting, over a three‐year period to guide the clubs towards attaining sustainable, best practice outcomes, by up‐skilling club representatives to pass on newly acquired skills to successive generations of club representatives.
City Sport and Recreation Club Development Officer, Ryan Thompson, said all Geraldton clubs would be invited to a workshop presented by Ian Crawford, an acclaimed guru in community club governance.
“The workshop – 7 steps to high performing community organisations – will offer an introduction to strategic planning, including how to align with the City’s Strategic Plan, how to run a good committee meeting and some key points for improving the finances of clubs,” he said.
“The workshop will also act as the launch of the Our Club Rules! Club Makeover Program and following the workshop, interested clubs can submit an expression of interest to be involved in the Club Makeover Program.
“Once selected, the clubs will be provided with hands‐on support and guidance from local experts to improve identified areas of need, they will be provided with opportunities to explore previously ignored areas and boost already successful aspects over the three‐year period.
“The program will be tailored so as to meet each club’s individual needs,” said Mr Thompson.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, November 7 at the City’s Function Room, 63 Cathedral Avenue from 6.30pm. A light supper will be provided, so RSVPs are critical and should be sent to Ryan Thompson at ryant@cgg.wa.gov.au by Friday, November 1.
